Alexander County Library and Bethlehem branch are currently signing up anyone who wants to read this summer! Youth ages birth to 18 for Make A Splash – READ! and teens and adults for Bethlehem Reads the Classics. Fantastic programs available at no charge. Summer time is calling and the Alexander County Library and Bethlehem branch are answering with lots of splashy fun and great books! Sign up for summer reading now at either location and Make A Splash – READ! Program is free and for all ages – birth to 18.

Thanks to everyone that has called in or emailed cemetery locations to the GIS Department. We now have over 100 named and located public and private cemeteries in our data set. We are finding more every week. Keep up the good work!

Children and teens must be willing to be photographed or videoed. Be sure to have your parents’ permission!
Preschool storytimes for March 9 and 12 is a SPLASH! theme, so preschoolers and toddlers can dress fishy, mermaid-y or pirate-y then.

MEMBERS OF THE ALEXANDER COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAVE FILED ADDITIONAL CHARGES AGAINST FIVE SUSPECTS RELATED TO THE JANUARY 15, 2010 ARREST MADE ON NC 127 NEAR THE CATAWBA COUNTY LINE. THE CHARGES ARE THE RESULT OF OFFICERS CONFIRMING THREE OF THE SIX GUNS FOUND IN THE CAR AS STOLEN. ALL SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH FELONY POSSESSION OF STOLEN FIREARMS. CHARGED ARE ANDREW MARQUEST IZARD AGE 22 OF HICKORY, BOND SET AT $2000.00 SECURED. THOMAS MATIRAL IZARD AGE 21 OF HICKORY, BOND SET AT $2000.00 SECURED. KARL BRANTLEY RINEHARDT AGE 31 OF HICKORY, BOND SET AT $75,000.00 SECURED, JEREMY MAURICE WILLIAMS AGE 20 OF CONOVER, BOND SET AT $75,000.00 SECURED AND MICHAEL ARTHUR WILLIAMS AGE 33 OF HICKORY BOND SET AT $75,000.00. ALL SUSPECTS HAVE A COURT DATE OF 3-15-2010. THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.
