Salary Grade: 57
Salary Range: $9.48 - $13.07 (DOE)

Description of Work: An employee in this class will provide assistance at the main or children’s desks. Work involves training and supervising community service workers in shelving and categorizing books and materials. Work will include checking materials in and out; assisting patrons in locating books; issuing library cards, collecting fees/fines; opening and closing the library; answering phones. Work in a library may expose an employee to dusty atmospheric conditions, small-enclosed rooms and narrow aisles. Work involves accuracy and constant public contact. Work requires employees to be tactful and courteous. Work is performed under general supervision of the Library Director or designee. Work is evaluated for customer service effectiveness and accuracy of work activities through daily observations, discussions and review of completed work.
Education and Experience Required: Graduation from high school required. Additional coursework in office practices and related clerical experience. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, fingering, talking, lifting, pushing, pulling, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to read spine labels and to count money.
Experience Preferred: Experience working with the public preferably in a library setting.
