It is the mission of the Alexander County Resource Center to provide a structured, supervised environment for offenders, while also providing treatment services and referrals, with all efforts focusing on the successful reintegration of Intermediate Offenders into the productive community. All offenders sentenced or referred to ACRC must also have an intermediate punishment under the structured sentencing law; they are accepted in the program by direct sentence from the judge or by modification by the probation officer.
An intermediate punishment requires the offender to be placed on supervised probation, and the term of probation must include one or more special conditions. These special conditions can include: electronic house arrest, intensive probation, and/or split sentence. Intermediate punishments are more restrictive and controlling than basic probation but less costly than prison. They generally require offenders to follow strict rules, work, pay restitution, and participate in drug or other types of treatment.
Alexander County Resource Center requires every offender to submit to a substance abuse assessment and follow recommendations of the assessment. Also, each offender must participate in the Life Skills group, which is a six week class on nutrition, AIDS/STDs, employment skills, etc. Each offender before completing the program will perform a community restitution project.
